May, it seems, is international make-a-remake month and there is some chuffin’ interesting and exciting stuff out there. Dragon’s Harrier Attack: The Second Sortie, Coderneedsfood’s Dropzone and the continuing work on Fatsegal’s Saboteur are all getting me wobbly at the knees whilst Sparkes’ port of Endurion’s Joe Gunn to that beast of a machine that is the ZX Spectrum is a work of art beyond compare
Nothing, however, could have prepared me for an out of the blue post on the forum touting a remake of one of my childhood favorites. You see, I’ve a deep love for that little chunk of rubber keyed goodness that is the Speccy, Sir Clive’s pride and joy. Let’s make no bones about it, it is, in my opinion (and I’m rarely incorrect in most matters) the greatest bit of gaming kit that ever existed.
But I’m also a bit of an Amiga freak. Oh yeah, it’s a deep and dirty secret of mine, I’m baring my soul here for you, so keep a lid on it! I had a ‘Miggy, I loved my ‘Miggy, and, above all else, I loved Powermonger on my ‘Miggy.*
I spent hours, days, weeks on it. It consumed much of my teenage years. It was war, but not like I’d ever seen before, this was REAL war, I was there, I was on the island with my troops, gathering resources, building, farming, shagging sheep….. No game ever took me deeper into itself.
And now it’s back, come to steal my gaming hours again…. Well, if all goes to plan it WILL be back (no pressure though). The cunningly named MrThingy has gone and made a bloody good f$%king amazing start and, given that the project is barely a week old, this is looking like a spot on remake already (did I say no pressure? Bwahahahahahaha!)
The remake is entitled ‘The P Project’ and is currently sitting pride of place in my ‘Remakes that MUST be completed’ list, and that’s one hell of a long list!

All I need now is Bard’s Tale II and I’ll never leave the house again…….
